UEFA Cup: Super Sampdoria see off Partizan Print E-mail
Friday, 24 October 2008

Sampdoria fought hard to see off Partizan 2-1 in Belgrade and claim three valuable points in Group C while AC Milan and Udinese also won.

Sampdoria took the lead after 20 minutes when Bonazzoli flicked the ball home with his heel as it bobbled around in the box.

Partizan levelled just after the half-hour mark when Pietro Accardi mistimed his lunge at Diarra and the Senegalese ace made no mistake when through on goal, slotting past Luca Castellazzi.

Sampdoria restored their lead 10 minutes after the restart when Marius Stankevicius' cross was poorly cleared by Aleksandar Miljkovic and the ball fell to Daniele Dessena to poke home from short range.

Partizan: Bozovic; Stevanovic (Miljkovic 46), Jovanovic, Knezevic, Obradovic; Fejsa (Lazic 65), Juca; Tosic, Moreira, Paunovic (Bogunovic 70), Diarra

Sampdoria: Castellazzi; Lucchini, Accardi, Bottinelli; Stenkevicius, Delvecchio (Sammarco 73), Franceschini, Dessena, Ziegler; Cassano (Bellucci 61), Bonazzoli (Fornaroli 87)

Milan totally dominated in a 3-1 win over Heerenveen at the Abe Lenstra Stadium with Kaka, Gennaro Gattuso and Pippo Inzaghi on target.

Milan took the lead after 19 minutes when Kaka's cross found the net via a deflection off young defender Calvin Jong-A-Ping.

And it was 2-0 Milan halfway through the first half when Gennaro Gattuso arrived at the near post to tuck away a Kaka ball.

Milan went 3-0 up when Gattuso played through Inzaghi to steer the ball past the onrushing Vandenbussche.

Heerenveen scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot after a clear foul from Favalli.

Dida had no chance with Pranjic's chipped kick and the home fans finally had something to cheer about, but it was Milan's night.

Heerenveen: Vandenbussche; Popov (Henrique 61), Breuer, Digsdag, Jong-A-Ping; Grindheim, Vayrynen, Pranjic; Beerens, Sibon, Elyounoussi (Kalou 61)

Milan: Dida; Zambrotta, Bonera, Antonini, Favalli; Gattuso, Emerson, Flamini, Kaka (Jankulovski 75); Inzaghi (Ronaldinho 71), Shevchenko (Pato 71)

Udinese secured a 2-0 victory over 10-man Tottenham thanks to an Antonio Di Natale penalty and Simone Pepe.

Udinese won a penalty in the strangest of circumstances. Spurs 'keeper Gomes made a howler when he tried to round Quagliarella with the ball at his feet. The Brazilian No 1 lost the ball and brought down the Azzurri hitman, earning a booking into the bargain.

Di Natale calmly stepped up and placed the spot-kick perfectly in the bottom right corner.

The crucial second Udinese goal came on the break and it came from substitute Pepe.

Tottenham had committed everyone forward and the ball eventually came to Pepe in the box. The new Azzurri ace casually sidestepped a desperate defensive slide and slotted home off the post.

It was a great win for Udinese who take control of Group D and carry the confidence into the weekend's game against Roma.

Udinese: Handanovic; Motta, Coda, Domizzi, Lukovic (Pasquale 88); Inler, D'Agostino, Isla; Sanchez (Pepe 78), Quagliarella (Floro Flores 86), Di Natale

Tottenham: Gomes; Hutton, King, Woodgate (Giovani 62), Assou-Ekotto (Modric 46); Lennon, Zokora, Jenas, O'Hara, Bale; Bent

Sent Off: O'Hara 56 (T)
