The Blues have powered back to the top of the Super 14 table with a dominant display to dispose of the Waratahs 34-6 in a one-sided game at Eden Park on Friday night.
The Blues defence was monumental, rarely allowing the Waratahs to get out of their half, while the home team spent 22 minutes in the opposition quarter. Lock Troy Favell and flanker Daniel Braid were rewarded for their application in the tackled ball situation and in support play picking up three tries between them.
Halfback Steve Devine scored the other try while the Flavell's second try also sealed the bonus-point for the Blues and sees them go back on the top of the table at least until the Sharks- Brumbies match on Sunday morning (AEDT).
It was apparent from the outset that the Waratahs scrum was in trouble with prop Alistair Baxter having problems against Chris Heard. Baxter was twice penalised inside his own 22, but second five-eighths Luke McAlister was only able to convert one of the chances, after four minutes. The night was summed up with the last gasp effort by the Waratahs to score a try ending with the ball being passed over the sideline.

HT: 17-6 The Chiefs have extended the Queensland Reds losing streak to seven straight with a come-from-behind 21-19 win at Suncorp Stadium.
The New Zealanders, which still harbour ambitions of making the playoffs, had second-rower Kristian Ormsby to thank after the lock barrelled over for two tries either side of half-time.
Flanker David Croft replied - when the Chiefs were down to 14 men with Liam Messam sin-binned - to hand the Reds a 16-10 lead and when Andrew Walker kicked his fourth penalty, the bottom-placed Queenslanders were also 19-18 ahead with five minutes remaining.
But opposition fly-half Stephen Donald held his nerve after a handful of second-half mistakes to reply with his third penalty of the night and give the visitors their second successive Super 14 win. Chiefs 21 Tries: Ormsby 2 Conversions: Donald Penalties: Donald 3
Reds 19 Tries: Croft Conversions: Walker Penalties: Walker 4 The Brumbies have revived their 2007 Super 14 hopes with an upset 21-10 win over the previously undefeated Sharks in Durban on Sunday morning.
The Australian outfit produced its best performance of the season and held a handy 18-0 lead at half-time courtesy of tries to utility back Julian Huxley and lock Adam Wallace-Harrison and penalties to Huxley.
The Sharks threw everything at the Brumbies in the second half, but a massive defensive effort by the ACT-based team restricted the home side to just 10 points. The win is the Brumbies first every super rugby victory at Durban and moves them back to the top half of the table, while the Sharks slip to second after suffering their first loss of the campaign. Sharks 10 Tries: Jacobs Conversions: James Penalties: Pienaar
