The NSW Waratahs claimed annual bragging rights over the ACT Brumbies with a hard-fought 24-17 victory in the Super 14 derby played in atrocious conditions at the Sydney Football Stadium.

Crusaders mentor Robbie Deans withdrew from the Wallabies coaching race, leaving former Brumbies mentor and current Blues coach David Nucifora the new favourite for the role.
The Wallabies' hopes of winning the 2007 IRB Rugby World Cup are finished after losing 12-10 to England in their quarter-final at Stade Velodrome in Marseille.
