 Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet scored Tuesday and 10-man Juventus beat Cesena 2-1 to claim a share of the lead in Italy's Serie B with Napoli. Crotone and Triestina drew nil all in Serie B's only other match for the night.
Del Piero tapped in from close range in the 17th minute and Trezeguet scored with a header in the 25th. Jonathan Zebina was sent off in the 66th minute for violent conduct. Juventus, which was demoted and penalized nine points in the Italian match-fixing scandal, joined Napoli with 35 points. Cesena has 26 points. The Turin powerhouse gave a much improved performance after the 1-0 defeat to Mantova on Saturday — the club's first loss in Italy's second division. Italy and Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi, who was a second-half substitute in Saturday's game, started the match and marshaled an inexperienced Bianconeri midfield. Playing alongside the World Cup winner, Matteo Paro, Raffaele Palladino and Claudio Marchisio, are all under 24. Like Camoranesi, Del Piero gave a dominating performance. The Juventus captain scored after Cesena goalkeeper Luigi Turci parried Palladino's cross. He could have had another goal in the 36th, but mis-hit Camoranesi's looping pass. Trezeguet doubled Juventus' lead with an angled header off left back Federico Balzaretti's pinpoint cross. Turci thwarted Marchisio's shot from distance with a diving save, and Palladino and Trezeguet also just missed in the second half. Ndiaye Papa Waigo's 62nd-minute header against the run of play gave Cesena hope. Zebina was red-carded in the 66th for kicking a Cesena player in retaliation to an apparent shoulder charge, which knocked the Juventus defender to the ground. Cesena was denied an equalizer in the 90th minute, when Graziano Pelle's goal was annulled for a foul on Juventus goalkeeper Antonio Mirante. Mirante played instead of Italian international Gianluigi Buffon, who injured his back over the weekend. Buffon watched the game from Stadio Olimpico's south curve, sitting alongside Juve fans. Veteran midfielder Pavel Nedved also was absent, completing a five-game suspension. The 16th-round match was postponed in December after two Juventus youth players drowned in an accident at the club's training facility near Turin. Finalmente sani nello stesso momento scacciano le paure bianconere nellla fase forse più delicata della stagione degli uomini di Deschamps. La Juve non brilla sul piano del gioco, ma è molto più ordinata, schierata con un classico 4-4-2, rispetto a quella raffazzonata per gli infortuni di Mantova, con parecchi giocatori fuori forma e fuori ruolo. Questa Juve patisce, basta per centrare l'ottava vittoria (più un pari) in casa, ma si è complicata ancora una volta la vita quando la vittoria sembrava in cassaforte. Infatti, sul 2-0, subisce un gol evitabilissimo, colpa di una topica difensiva e dell'opportunismo di Papa Waigo, un razzo in velocità, a segno di testa. Poi Zebina perde la testa, come troppo spesso gli capita, e si fa cacciare per un fallaccio a palla lontana. Sul 2-1, con l'uomo in meno, la Juve, già in emergenza difesa, perde Kovac per infortunio e finisce la gara con una retroguardia sperimentale. Un calo di concentrazione grave, già capitato nella gara contro l'Arezzo. Il Cesena esce dall'Olimpico di Torino a testa alta, sfiorando il pari e mettendo in mostra un buon gioco. Nel finale aveva anche trovato il 2-2 ma Banti ha annullato il gol di Pellè per un presunto fallo in mischia su Mirante in uscita. gazzetta |
