Serie B: Genoa stay top despite draw (English/Italian) Print E-mail
Monday, 06 November 2006

Genoa's AdailtonGenoa stayed top of Italy's Serie B despite a 1-1 draw with lowly Crotone on Saturday. The result gave Italy's oldest club 20 points from 10 games, one point ahead of Piacenza, who beat Modena 2-1 on Friday.

Rimini are third on 18 points and missed the chance to pull level with Genoa when they were held 1-1 by Albinoleffe.

Crotone led Genoa at halftime thanks to a goal by Pierluigi Borghetti but home striker Martins Adailton equalised early in the second half from the penalty spot, after a handball by Ricardo Veron.

Genoa midfielder Raffaele Longo almost grabbed a late winner when he hit the bar with a shot from outside the area but his side's match ended on sour note with the sending-off of Gaetano De Rosa for a second bookable offence.

Juventus are fifth in the division on 16 points with a game in hand and will close to within a point of the lead if they beat Napoli on Monday (2000 GMT).

Other results : Bari 2 Spezia 0, Frosinone 2 Bologna 1, Mantova 4 Cesena 3, Arezzo 0 Lecce 1, Triestina 0 Brescia 0, Vicenza 0 Verona 1, Pescara 2 Treviso 2.
