Serie A: Milan and Roma bounce back (English/Italian) Print E-mail
Monday, 08 October 2007
Gilardino finds form for AC Milan against Lazio in Rome. 5-1 was the end score line.Alberto Gilardino scored his first goals of the season in Rome after AC Milan thumped Lazio 5-1. Fiorentina salvaged a point at home to Juventus after a late penalty.

Juventus have been unable to make significant inroads into Inter Milan's lead at the top of Serie A after they were denied maximum points at Fiorentina by old-boy Adrian Mutu.

The Romania striker, who joined the Viola from Juve in July last year, beat Gianluigi Buffon from the spot with two minutes remaining after Nicola Legrottaglie handled in the area to deny Claudio Ranieri a victory against the club where he won the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa in 1996.

Vincenzo Iaquinta opened the scoring in the first half for the visitors, who remain second but now trail Inter by three points.

Francesco Totti struck twice as Roma moved level on points with Juve after a 3-0 win at Parma.

Totti opened the scoring after two minutes before providing the assist for Alessandro Mancini to double Roma's advantage midway through the first half.

Parma, who created little, suffered a huge setback with striker Bernardo Corradi sent off in the 26th minute after collecting two yellow cards.

Totti killed the game off with eight minutes remaining.

AC Milan produced the performance of the weekend with a 5-1 win at Lazio.

The Rossoneri bounced back from their shock UEFA Champions League defeat at Celtic in midweek with Kaka and Alberto Gilardino scoring twice.

Milan's first came from Massimo Ambrosini although that was cancelled out by Stefano Mauri.

Genoa secured their third successive victory with a routine 2-0 win over Cagliari to move into fifth.

Marco Borriello scored his fifth goal of the season after an hour before Marco Di Vaio opened his account to put the game beyond doubt with 17 minutes to go.

Palermo snatched a point at the death to deny Reggina their first victory of the season.

Having dominated the encounter at La Favorita, Palermo fell behind when Nicola Amoruso scored in second-half injury-time but Carvalho Amauri came to the rescue for the Sicilian giants with a last-gasp equaliser.

It was all the more impressive considering Palermo were reduced to 10 men when defender Giuseppe Biava was sent off in the 88th minute.

Gennaro Sardo scored the only goal as Catania beat Livorno.

Livorno's woes were compounded when David Balleri was sent off for a second yellow card 14 minutes from time to leave the Tuscany side bottom of Serie A without a win and with two points from seven matches.

Eugenio Corini scored an 89th-minute winner for Torino to sink a Sampdoria side who played for the entire second half with 10 men.

The first half was an even affair but the whole nature of the game changed a minute before the break when the visitors' Sergio Volpi was sent off for a reckless tackle on Matteo Rubin.

The Genoa-based side battled bravely but they could not hold out with Corini deflecting Dominique Malonga's shot into the net with time almost up.

Siena claimed their first win of the season in style as they beat fellow strugglers Empoli 3-0 at the Artemio Franchi.

Massimo Maccarone was the hero as he first won the penalty that saw Daniele Adani sent off for a professional foul and then converted it himself on his return to the side following injury.

Further goals from Thomas Locatelli and Daniele Galloppa sealed an impressive win which lifts the side out of the relegation zone.

LAZIO-MILAN 1-5 (primo tempo 1-2)
MARCATORI: nel pt al 16' Ambrosini (M), al 23' Mauri (L), al 32' Kakà (M) su rigore; nel st al 7' Kakà (M), al 24' e al 34' Gilardino (M)
LAZIO (4-4-2): Muslera; De Silvestri, Stendardo (11' st Scaloni), Cribari, Zauri; Behrami (24' st Baronio), Mudingayi, Mutarelli, Mauri; Pandev, Rocchi (32' st Tare). (32 Ballotta, 3 Kolarov, 10 Baronio, 68 Manfredini, 81 Del Nero). All: Rossi.
MILAN (4-3-1-2): Dida; Oddo (36' st Simic), Bonera, Nesta, Favalli; Gattuso (37' st Brocchi), Pirlo, Ambrosini; Seedorf (38' st Gourcuff), Kakà; Gilardino. (16 Kalac, 2 Cafu, 5 Emerson, 9 Inzaghi). All: Ancelotti.

Mutu gela la Juve all'89', A Firenze finisce 1-1

Fiorentina-Juventus finisce 1-1.
