Serie A: Inter see off Juventus, Milan slip up Print E-mail
Tuesday, 25 November 2008

Inter Milan stay top of Serie A after defeating Juventus 1-0 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan while AC Milan and Napoli both drew 2-2 against Torino and Cagliari respectively.

Inter Milan have moved four points clear at the Serie A summit with a 1-0 win over arch-rivals Juventus in the Derby d'Italia.

After a ferocious first half, it took a 72nd-minute goal from Sulley Muntari to decide the game in the home side's favour.

Jose Mourinho prevailed in the much-anticipated battle of two former Chelsea coaches against Claudio Ranieri and saw his side cement their place on top of the table.

The match also saw Adriano recalled to Mourinho's starting line-up after the Brazil frontman had been omitted from the squad for five matches due to a disciplinary matter.

Earlier in the day, Fiorentina produced a fantastic second-half comeback to beat Udinese 4-2 in an action-packed encounter at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The Bianconeri had taken a first-half lead through Antonio Floro Flores before Adrian Mutu levelled from the penalty spot early in the second period.

Riccardo Montolivo scored a brace before Alberto Gilardino made it 4-1 for the hosts. Antonio Di Natale pulled a late goal back from the penalty spot after Gianluca Comotto was dismissed.

AC Milan have cut Inter Milan's lead at the top of Serie A to three points despite being held to a 2-2 draw at Torino.

Having gone behind to Roberto Stellone's 25th-minute strike, Carlo Ancelotti's side roared back and equalised through Alexandre Pato before Ronaldinho put the visitors ahead 10 minutes before half-time.

But a 77th-minute penalty from Alessandro Rosina denied the Rossoneri and handed Torino a draw which moves them a point clear of the relegation zone.

Napoli missed the chance to move into third after relinquishing their 100 percent home record at the San Paolo as an injury-time strike from Daniele Conti handed Cagliari a point.

It seemed to be going to form when Marek Hamsik put Napoli ahead after nine minutes but Diego Lopez levelled matters 10 minutes into the second half.

Ezequiel Lavezzi looked to have won it for the hosts when he struck six minutes from time but Conti equalised again at the death.
Ousmane Dabo scored a late goal as Lazio claimed a fortunate 1-1 draw with Genoa.

The former Manchester City player scored with 10 minutes to go after Diego Milito had put the visitors ahead.

Milito also had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside and missed a penalty.

Mirko Vucinic was on target against his former team as Roma continued their recent improvement with a comfortable 3-0 win at Lecce.

Juan and Francesco Totti also scored as Roma built impressively on last week's derby defeat of Lazio, shattering the southerners' unbeaten home record.

Strike duo Claudio Bellucci and Antonio Cassano were on song as Sampdoria demolished Catania 3-0 to move further clear of the drop zone.

Bellucci, who used to play alongside Catania coach Walter Zenga in his first spell with Sampdoria, opened the scoring in the sixth minute.

Cassano added the second just after an hour and gave a more realistic look to the scoreline with a third in stoppage-time.
Reggina continued their revival with a 3-1 victory over Atalanta.

Last weekend's 1-0 win over Udinese lifted the Amaranto off the foot of the table and they continued the upward trend with goals from Francesco Cozza and Bernardo Corradi in the opening 25 minutes.

Corradi sealed all three points with his second 11 minutes from time, before Cristiano Doni headed in a late consolation goal for the visitors.

Late penalties from Daniele Galloppa and Massimo Maccarone handed Siena a 2-0 victory at Chievo while a last-minute goal from Davide Succi handed Palermo a 1-1 draw against Bologna, who had earlier gone ahead through Marco Di Vaio.
