Adrian Mutu's late penalty earned 10-man Fiorentina an epic 2-2 draw with leaders Roma as Palermo stunned AC Milan, Napoli downed Livorno, and Juventus and Inter Milan punished Reggina and Sampdoria.
Adrian Mutu's late penalty earned 10-man Fiorentina an epic 2-2 draw with leaders Roma, but Sebastien Frey was Man of the Match. Mirko Vucinic had a goal correctly disallowed for offside as he ran on to Ludovic Giuly's through ball. Roma took the lead with a spectacular jewel from Mancini. He gathered on the edge of the area from Cicinho and dummied a cross, but in fact chipped the stunned Sebastien Frey. The lead lasted just five minutes before Alessandro Gamberini volleyed in a corner kick, but Roma shot-stopper Alexander Doni made a horrible mistake as he flapped wildly at the cross. Frey denied both Daniele De Rossi and Vucinic in quick succession, then Max Tonetto's desperate tackle cut off Giampaolo Pazzini, the ball fell to Mutu and Cicinho dived in with the challenge. From the resulting corner, Mutu was left totally unmarked only to volley inches wide of the near post. The Giallorossi scored against the run of play with the new arrival contributing. Aquilani's dummy on a Vucinic rolled pass left former Barcelona star Giuly clear for a strong low drive. Christian Vieri came on and quickly earned a penalty for Matteo Ferrari's clumsy tackle. Mutu took the kick and cheekily chipped Doni to make it 2-2 at the Stadio Franchi.
Frey was Man of the Match, performing another tough save to beat away Vucinic's solo effort. Both sides were pushing for victory, but Fiorentina ended the game with 10 men as Donadel picked up his second booking. Fiorentina: Frey; Ujfalusi, Dainelli (Balzaretti 76), Gamberini, Pasqual; Semioli (Vieri 72), Donadel, Liverani (Santana 46), Montolivo; Pazzini, Mutu Roma: Doni; Cicinho (Esposito 85), Mexes, Ferrari, Tonetto; Pizarro, De Rossi; Taddei (Aquilani 36), Giuly, Mancini (Panucci 68); Vucinic Inter Milan-Sampdoria Zlatan Ibrahimovic's brace revived Inter's fortunes as they swept Sampdoria aside 3-0. It took a moment of individual brilliance to break through and it came from Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Swede launched forward into space and unleashed a left-foot rocket from distance for his fifth goal of the season. Ibrahimovic did everything himself, fighting for the ball between two defenders on the edge of the box, turning them to rush in and smash a left-foot screamer past a helpless Antonio Mirante. Antonio Cassano was thrown on and looked livelier than his teammates, but Inter went 3-0 up. Luis Figo was inspirational in midfield and secured the third goal, combining with Hernan Crespo to blast a right-foot strike under the crossbar. Palermo-AC Milan Milan had dozens of chances to win this match, but they ended up losing deep into stoppages in controversial fashion. Milan took the lead after 10 minutes with a well-worked team move. Gilardino and Kaka combined with first touch football on the edge of the area for the Brazilian to chip over the defence and Clarence Seedorf stroked home the finish from the penalty spot. Palermo started to push, but on the counter Milan again failed to put the result under lock and key. Seedorf threaded through for Kaka, who went round the goalkeeper and his angled drive was cleared off the line by a back-tracking defender. They had to pay for such wasteful finishing and on 73 minutes Palermo equalised in controversial circumstances. Amauri chested down the ball - perhaps with help from his left arm - and crossed low for Aimo Diana to come sliding in from six yards. Pippo Inzaghi replaced Gilardino and his weak looping header was easily smothered, but Massimo Oddo's error in stoppages allowed Amauri to fire over. Incredibly, Palermo turned it all around to win in the final seconds of injury time! Another Oddo mistake gave away a free kick and Kalac couldn't keep out Miccoli's set-piece after the defensive wall split. Juventus-Reggina Juventus comfortably hammered Reggina 4-0 despite resting several players, but there was an injury scare for Gianluigi Buffon. Legrottaglie, Salihamidzic, Trezeguet and Palladino all got a goal each in a magnificent second half performance. Napoli-Livorno Roberto Sosa snatched a late but fully deserved victory over Livorno. The first half was dominated by Napoli, though, as Amelia got down well to push a Maurizio Domizzi daisy-cutter round the near post, then he had to perform a tough save on a Domizzi header from the resulting corner kick. Napoli were dominating, but De Vezze went close to giving Livorno a shock lead when he drilled wide. Substitute Roberto Sosa created all sorts of problems for the Amaranto defence and 10 minutes from time his header smashed against the inside of the post. Parma got their first victory of the current Serie A campaign against to end Torino's unbeaten record thanks to second half goals from Reginaldo and former Azzurri striker Bernardo Corradi at Stadio Tardini for a two nil win. The Elefanti (Catania) finally grabbed their first win of the campaign and continued Empoli's current crisis as Martinez scored in the 48th minute to seal a 1-0 home Sicilian victory. Lazio celebrated their first victory of the campaign as Tommaso Rocchi broke his Serie A drought with a brace against Cagliari while team-mate Pandev also scored. Acquafresca scored for Cagliari. Simone Loria scored for Siena against his old club, but Atalanta earned a point at the Stadio Franchi Arena Montepaschi thanks to a Cristiano Doni penalty. Genoa managed to get their first win of the season against Udinese with Marco Borriello's hat-trick despite playing almost the entire second half with 10 men. It was a special match for Udinese's Fabio Quagliarella, as the ex-Sampdoria star returned to Marassi for the first time since his summer move. Asamoah and Mesto scored for Udinese as they lost 3-2.
