Serie A: Fiorentina, Milan and Roma ominous (English/Italian) Print E-mail
Monday, 27 August 2007
Kaka scores 2 goals against Genoa. (all Milan fans were banned from the math, pictured background) - AusItalia.comFiorentina, Juventus, Cagliari, AC Milan, Sampdoria and Roma all secured valuable wins in the opening round of the 2007/08 Serie A Campionato.

Inter Milan's defence of the Serie A crown it won so emphatically last season has started with a home draw against Udinese on Sunday.

The Nerazzurri took an early lead through Dejan Stankovic but were then reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Julio Cesar was sent off 12 minutes into the second half.

The hosts remained in front despite the numerical disadvantage until injury time when defender Ivan Cordoba put through his own net to hand Udinese a share of the spoils.

AC Milan opened its challenge with a 3-0 win at newly-promoted Genoa.

Carlo Ancelotti's men scored all their goals in the first half with Massimo Ambrosini's strike being added to by a double from Brazil playmaker Kaka, the second of which came from the penalty spot.

Laura Pausini and more Italian artists in the AusItalia Shop, Click Here! The result takes Milan directly into second position, but the Rossoneri will probably be annoyed that old foe Juventus, is already ahead of them on top of the Serie A table after the Bianconeri dusted off Livorno 5-1 in its return to the top flight after a year's punishment in Serie B for match fixing.

Roma, tipped by many to improve on last season's second-place finish, enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 win at Palermo.

Philippe Mexes opened the scoring for the Giallorossi after four minutes and Alberto Aquilani added a second shortly before the half hour mark.

Socceroos midfielder Mark Bresciano, who came close to joining Manchester City over the summer, did not start for the Rosanero but did come on at half-time as a second half substitute, albeit with little affect against a rampant Roma which probably should have won by more.

Vincenzo Montella marked his return to Sampdoria with the winner as the Genoese club beat Siena 2-1.

Claudio Bellucci had fired the visitors ahead shortly after the half-hour mark, but they were pegged back by Daniele Corvia's header midway though the second half.

Veteran striker Montella had been brought off the bench shortly before that goal, but repaid the faith shown in him by coach Walter Mazzarri by scoring the winner four minutes from time to get his second spell with the Genoa club off to a fine start.

Fiorentina shrugged off Tuscan neighbours Empoli with an easy 3-1 win.

Pazzini celebrates goal number one of the 2007/08 Serie A Campionato for Fiorentina - AusItalia.comViola striker Giampaolo Pazzini opened the scoring in the 56th minute before Adrian Mutu extended his team's advantage seven minutes later.

Riccardo Montolivo made sure of the win on 70 minutes before Luca Saudati reduced the deficit deep into injury time.

Napoli endured a disappointing return to Serie A as Cagliari started the new season with an impressive 2-0 win at the Stadio San Paolo.

Alessandro Matri put the Sardinians ahead in the 49th minute and Pasquale Foggia secured all three points from the penalty spot 10 minutes later.

Catania earned a 2-2 draw in an explosive match with Parma at the Stadio Tardini.

Sicilian side Catania took a 12th-minute lead through Takayuki Morimoto before Andrea Pisanu equalised midway through the half.

Parma thought it had earned the advantage at half-time when Marco Rossi put them ahead for the first time three minutes prior to the interval, but the visitors levelled straight away through David Baiocco.

Catania coach Silvio Baldini was dismissed five minutes from time for dissent after lashing out at the Parma bench.

Cristiano Doni's controversial penalty five minutes from time earned Atalanta a 1-1 draw with Reggina.

Hoping for a good start to the season after battling against a points deduction last season, Reggina went ahead in the 76th minute thanks to Nicola Amoruso but was pegged back at the last by Doni, who had threatened all game.

In Italian: La Roma dà spettacolo, Il Palermo deve inchinarsi
