Mark Bresciano leaves Serie A's Palermo - AusItalia.comSocceroos midfielder Mark Bresciano has sealed a move from Serie A side Palermo to English Premier League club Manchester City.

Bresciano, 27, becomes the ninth signing of new City coach Sven-Goran Eriksson's reign at the club with the transfer, reportedly worth $A7.2 million.

"I needed this move to freshen me up," Bresciano told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"I needed a new challenge and I wanted to get the excitement factor back into my game."

Bresciano spent eight seasons in Italy playing for Empoli, Parma and Palermo and said the chance to play under Eriksson, a former coach of Serie A side Lazio, was a huge incentive.

"He's a big reason I've decided to switch to a new competition - he was very keen to make it happen," Bresciano said.

Eriksson has had a busy summer after already splashing out to sign Martin Petrov, Elano, Gelson Fernandes, Rolando Bianchi and Geovanni Deiberson.
