Serie A: Atalanta, Udinese and Fiorentina looking good (English/Italian) Print E-mail
Monday, 24 September 2007
new Fiorentina striker Christian Vieri vs Catania calcio - AusItalia.comDi Natale continued his goal scoring spree with two more against Reggina while Zampagna and Mutu were match-winners for Atalanta and Fiorentina respectively.

Another Riccardo Zampagna stunner gave Atalanta a crucial victory to take them up to second place in Serie A, dooming Lazio to their first defeat.

Atalanta broke the deadlock just before half-time. Ferreira Pinto pushed down the right flank and lifted his cross to the back post for a precise Antonio Langella header between the upright and Fernando Muslera.

Lazio equalised with substitute Massimo Mutarelli, as the Atalanta defence was caught napping on a Pandev cross and he was ready to tap in at the back post undisturbed.

Just as Lazio were pouring forward, Zampagna struck deep into stoppages to restore Atalanta's lead. A long goal kick went straight over Guglielmo Stendardo and Zampagna showed his incredible feel for the goal by flicking it over Muslera in acrobatic fashion.

A late goal by Italy striker Vincenzo Iaquinta earned Juventus a thrilling 2-2 draw at Serie A leaders AS Roma on Sunday.

The Rome club appeared to be cruising to victory after two first-half goals by Francesco Totti cancelled out David Trezeguet's opener and Alessandro Del Piero missed a penalty.

Roma stay top with 10 points from four games, two points more than champions Inter Milan, who were held 2-2 at Livorno, while Juventus are sixth with seven points.

Italian and Udinese striker Antonio Di Natale scores against Reggina - AusItalia.comAntonio Di Natale continued his incredible form for Udinese with two magnificent goals to defeat Reggina. He has now scored three goals in two Serie A games, plus the brace for Italy.

Fiorentina also have eight points after beating Catania 1-0 away from home.

Adrian Mutu´s early strike secured all three points against 10-man Catania and preserved Fiorentina´s unbeaten start to the season.

The former Chelsea and Juventus striker rose highest to head home a fourth minute corner and leave the hosts still searching for their first win of the campaign.

Matters went from bad to worse for the home side when midfielder Davide Baiocco was dismissed 12 minutes from time.

Inter were looking for redemption on the domestic front after losing 1-0 to Fenerbahce in the Champions League on Wednesday.

But lowly Livorno stunned the visitors in the first minute with a Daniele De Vezze strike. Zlatan Ibrahimovic evened things up in the 35th minute.

The Tuscan side regained the lead in the second half when Massimo Loviso converted a penalty given for a foul by Luis Jimenez on Nico Pulzetti.

But Ibrahimovic came to the rescue again, converting a penalty after he was brought down in the area. Inter ended the match with 10 men, with Maicon sent off for a nasty foul on Erjon Bogdani in the 81st minute.

Siena's Massimo Maccarone saw two penalties saved by Matteo Sereni, but still earned a point in Torino.

A 24th minute corner kick took a few touches before it found Paolo Hernan Dellafiore from six yards and Eleftheropoulos parried the shot, but only after it had crossed the line. The referee and linesman did well to spot it.

Siena were awarded a penalty as Massimo Maccarone was wrestled to the ground by Cesare Natali. The former Middlesbrough man took the spot-kick himself and fired it straight at Matteo Sereni.

Maccarone's confidence may have been hit, as soon after his free header was off target and then his close-range attempt was kept out by Sereni's foot.

After the break Maccarone was again brought down by Natali and once more his penalty was parried by Sereni, but this time he was quick to get hold of the loose ball and tap in Siena's equaliser.

Cristian Zaccardo's volley gave Palermo a second consecutive away victory against Cagliari - their first ever on Sardinian soil.

The Rosanero had never conquered Sardinia in Serie A, but were buoyed by Thursday's UEFA Cup victory.

Empoli and Napoli played out a nil-all draw at the Stadio Castellani, although Empoli's Luca Saudati hit the woodwork late on.

Napoli's reserve goalkeeper Gianello did well in his rare first team performance, parrying a Sebastian Giovinco rocket that bounced right in front of him, but Saudati was unable to turn in the loose ball.

Napoli were furious when the referee did not play an advantage, as Lavezzi had shrugged off a foul and was one-on-one with the goalkeeper.

Mere seconds after the restart the visitors had a great scoring opportunity with Balli managing to beat away a Zalayeta chest and half-volley from six yards, set up by Savini.

AC Milan notch up a third consecutive Serie A draw in a frenetic 1-1 against Parma at the San Siro with Clarence Seedorf and Andrea Pisanu.

Milan eventually took the lead with a bizarre goal. A corner kick took a few deflections and Inzaghi's half-volley from Kaka was parried by Nicola Pavarini, but while the Castellini tried to clear the ball practically off the line, it ricocheted in off Seedorf's shinpad.

Parma drew level with a fine team move on 73 minutes. Reginaldo skipped past Nesta on the left flank with some delightful footwork and crossed low for Pisanu to tap in between two defenders from six yards.

Local rivals Sampdoria and Genoa fought out a scrappy goalless draw later on Sunday. Former Azzurri attacker Antonio Cassano made his Sampdoria debut and played the final 15 minutes.

In Italian: Atalanta, il bello paga. Lazio, il mestiere no

Di Natale show: doppietta, L'Udinese va, Reggina k.o.
