Inter were crowned champions belatedly for last season after the match-fixing scandal which engulfed Italian football in the close season. Their opponents will start the season on minus 19 points for their involvement in the mess. The other matches will play the following day, including two of the other clubs found guilty – Milan and Lazio – facing each other at the San Siro. They begin the campaign on minus eight and 11 points respectively. Serie A 1st Round (10th September): Torino-Parma, Atalanta-Ascoli, Sampdoria-Empoli, Roma-Livorno (9/9), Palermo-Reggina, Milan-Lazio, Messina-Udinese, Fiorentina-Inter (9/9), Chievo-Siena, Cagliari-Catania. The Serie A football season will begin on September 9th with Inter Milan travelling to Fiorentina and Roma at home to Livorno. Milan play Lazio the following day in a match both will be desperate to win after their close-season troubles and points penalties.
