Casey Stoner has extended his lead in the MotoGP championship after fending off a fast finishing Valentino Rossi to win the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai on Sunday.
The seven-time world champion made a rare mistake on lap sixteen, overshooting a corner and easing the pressure on the 21 year old.
Rossi failed to take of advantage of the pole position he earned after blitzing the field in qualifying on Saturday where he recorded the fastest lap by more than a second.
In the analysis, Stoner's Ducati proved too powerful for the Italian Maestro, the championship leader finishing the 22-lap race in 44 minutes 12.891 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of Rossi.
Suzuki's John Hopkins finished third with Dani Pedrosa in fourth and Marco Melandri rounding out the top five.
Australia's Chris Vermeulen turned in a solid performance to finish seventh after starting in 14th on the grid following a disappointing qualifying session on Saturday.
The win is Corser's second of the season and the Aussie now sits 15 points ahead of Rossi in the championship standings.
