LifeStyle: ModaItalia - Italian Wine Catalogue in Torino Print E-mail
Wednesday, 04 October 2006
The 2007 and 20th edition of the Italian Wine catalogue will see a record number of wines receive the 'three glasses' insignia of top quality. The catalogue, published jointly by Gambero Rosso magazine and the Slow Food association, will be presented in Turin at a special ceremony October 28 during the Salone del Gusto trade fair, organized by Slow Food and dedicated to the pleasures of eating and drinking.

The 2007 edition reviews more than 16,000 wines from a record 2,206 vineyards and awards 282 wines with the three glasses recognition, the highest ever. A total of 150,000 copies of Italian Wine (Vini d'Italia) have been printed, 90,000 of them in Italian and the rest in English and German. The catalogue was edited by Gigi Piumati and Daniele Cernilli who explained that along with their traditional parameters, this year they added how well "a wine represents and mirrors the land where it is produced".

At 55 Tuscany has the greatest number of wines receiving the three glasses ranking, 13 more than last year, followed by Piedmont with 53, three less than in the 2006 edition. The Vineyard of the Year award went to Sicily's Benati, while a 2001 Cerbaiona Brunello di Montalcino was picked as Red of the Year and Pietracupa's Cupo 2005 from the southern region of Campania took the prize for white wine.
