LifeStyle: ModaItalia - Benetti Super Yacht arrives in Australia Print E-mail
Thursday, 24 January 2008
Italy's Benetti Super Yacht arrives in Brisbane - AusItalia.comMore than $300 million worth of luxury boats cruised into the Brisbane River aboard a rare semi-submersible yacht carrier, including a 35m Italian-made Benetti Super Yacht worth $25 million.

The luxury boats arrived on the 220m Super Servant 4 yacht carrier, which can submerge its decks to allow boats to be put on and off.

The boats will take five days to unload once the decks are submerged after the carrier docked at Fisherman's Island.

It can cost about $250,000 to transport a 40m superyacht from the US to Australia on the carrier. It's the biggest shipload of boats to come into Brisbane on a semi-submersible carrier and 25 of the 40 imported yachts and cruisers are expected to remain in Queensland, although not all are locally owned.

Overseas owners had shipped some of the boats here so they can cruise off the Queensland coast, said Jason Roberts of Brisbane company Aurora Global Logistics, the Australian agent responsible for the shipment.

Mr Roberts estimated that the boats would inject about $30 million into the local economy. "That's 10% of the value of the boats spent on fuel, provisioning, repairing and refitting the boats," he said.

The jewel of the shipment - the Benetti - has been bought by an Australian and will go interstate. But three other Italian super yachts in the shipment, worth $10 million to $15 million each, will stay in Queensland.
