Formula One: Ferrari sets the pace in Bahrain Print E-mail
Wednesday, 28 February 2007
Ferrari drivers Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen recorded the fastest testing times in Bahrain on Wednesday.

Massa's time of 1:31.260 was three-tenths of a second ahead of Raikonnen, who was trialling a new aero package in his car.

Reigning world champion Fernando Alonso was third-fastest in his McLaren with a time of 1:31.851.

Robert Kubica was fourth-fastest in the BMW-Sauber, while Renault driver Heikki Kovalainen damaged his R27 in a crash after recording the seventh-fastest time.

The 25-year-old Finn was disappointed with the setback just weeks away from the year's first race in Melbourne.

"All the safety systems worked perfectly so I am fine, but there is quite a lot of damage to the car and I may not be able to start running again until tomorrow afternoon," Kovalainen said in the team's end of day report.

"That will delay our programme, which is frustrating, but the focus now is on working with the team to get the car ready as soon as possible."

"We are already in a good position after running for three days last week, but there are still some important preparations to be completed before we get to Melbourne."

Bahrain is hosting the final official test before the new season starts in Australia on March 18.
