Formula One: Ferrari rules Bahrain with a 1-2 finish Print E-mail
Tuesday, 08 April 2008

Sample ImageIt was Ferrari day at Sakhir. Felipe Massa repeated his victory at this track and Kimi Raikkonen took second, putting him in the lead of the drivers championship.

The third race of the 2008 season ended without major incidents. The story of the day was the Ferrari win. And that story began when the Brazilian driver passed Robert Kubica, who had the pole, and dominated the entire race. Massa ended first, followed by his team-mate, the two BMW drivers Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, Heikki Kovalainen (McLaren), Jarno Trulli (Toyota), Mark Webber (Red Bull) and Nico Rosberg (Williams).
ERROR - The start of the race was somewhat chaotic. Kubica had a bad start on a supposedly clean area of the track, Lewis Hamilton didn't have any better luck, locked in and was in twelfth place after the first turn. When trying to pass Fernando Alonso (who happened to be in front on him), Hamilton rear ended the Spaniard. Was it Hamilton's mistake or did the Spaniard intentionally slow down? The incident will be up for discussion. As a result, Hamilton had to pull into the box to replace the nose of his McLaren and the race was over for him.
A HORSE RACE - Meanwhile, the Ferrari drivers were taking the lead. Massa quickly picked up a good few seconds over Raikkonen, although after the first pit stop, the Finn tried to catch up to the Brazilian with a few very fast laps. But this time around, Felipe did not make a single mistake and ended the race with a very important victory after what has been a very difficult time. 10 points for the Brazilian and a great win for Ferrari. Ferrari and BMW are now tied in the constructors standings. Raikkonen leads the drivers championship with 19 points, followed by this season's surprise Heidfeld (with 16 points) and Hamilton, Kovalainen and Kubica with 14 points. The next race will take place on April 27 in Montmeló, Spain.
