Formula One: Ferrari fly in Barcelona Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 February 2007
Ferrari's new car for 2007Ferrari took the second day of testing second day of the Barcelona test by storm, the F2007’s showing no signs of the suspect reliability that has dogged their progress so far with both drivers turning in very long runs.

Felipe Massa emerged fastest, the Brazilian clocking 107 laps and a fastest time of 1:21.181s, over half a second ahead of team mate Kimi Raikkonen who logged a massive 145 laps during the course of the day.

Renault returned to the right half of the time sheets and also put in long runs, with Heikki Kovalainen coming in third, a tenth slower than Raikkonen, on his way to 99 laps, and Giancarlo Fisichella running 129 laps in the second R27 and setting a time just a little over a tenth slower than his young Finnish team mate.

Fernando Alonso continued to mix it with the front runners as the McLarens have of late, the World Champion splitting the two Renaults but managing only 63 laps, half the number managed by Lewis Hamilton who brought the other MP4-22 into sixth fastest time of the day.

BMW had both Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld running today, the Pole just shading Hamilton in seventh place and his German team mate in 12th, less than half a second slower. The two ran 150 laps between them.

Williams also continued their hitherto impressive pace, although hindered by problems today, Nico Rosberg and Alex Wurz setting times within a tenth of each other for ninth and tenth positions, splitting the Toyota pair of Jarno Trulli and Franck Montagny in eighth and 11th positions. Rosbergs running was limited to a handful of laps late in the day and Wurz turned just over 50, while the similarly engined TF107’s racked up almost two hundred between them.

Honda and Red Bull continued to show poorly in relation to the pack. Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button managed an impressive number of laps – 179 between them – but set times just inside two seconds slower than the best, and the Red Bull pair came in just behind them, Mark Webber lapping 83 times and David Coulthard just over 50.

Anthony Davidson in the Super Aguri, and Christijan Albers in the Spyker, brought up the rear, both lapping around 100 much needed times. The new Toro Rosso was unveiled today, and the team present at Barcelona, but no laps were recorded.

Testing continues tomorrow when UpdateSport will bring you a full report of the days running.
