Coppa Italia: Roma and Inter through to quarters (English/Italian) Print E-mail
Thursday, 30 November 2006
vola MontellaRoma completed a 4-1 aggregate triumph over Triestina with a 2-0 win in the Italian capital and have qualified, along with Inter Milan, for the quarter-finals of the Italian Cup.

Valerio Virga put the Giallorossi ahead midway through the first half and Vincenzo Montella doubled their advantage five minutes later. Triestina, who are now eliminated from this season's Coppa Italia, are sitting in 9th place in Serie B.

Inter Milan have taken their Serie A form into the Coppa Italia with a crushing 4-0 win against Messina at the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri were 1-0 up from the first leg and Messina rarely looked like getting back into the tie as Inter secured a place in the quarter-finals.

Central defender Nicolas Burdisso was the unlikely hero for Roberto Mancini's men with two goals.

The Argentinian opened the scoring after 27 minutes with a firm header and Mariano Gonzalez made it 2-0 nine minutes later with a similar effort.

Inter's third came 16 minutes into the second half, Marco Andreolli nodding home after a goalmouth scramble.

And the rout was completed with nine minutes to go when Burdisso headed home Luis Figo's cross.
