Roma squandered countless chances and were denied an obvious penalty against Manchester United while Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored two goals to help nine-man Inter Milan beat PSV Eindhoven 2-0 in week two of the UEFA Champions League.

Inter was reduced to 10 men in the 65th when left back Cristian Chivu was sent off for his second yellow card. Following the final whistle, second-half substitute David Suazo was also shown a red card for an apparent elbow on PSV midfielder Carlos Salcido with the last play of the match.

"The game wasn't simple," Inter manager Roberto Mancini said. "We had to win after the false step in Turkey. PSV's (players) were bothersome but we conceded little even if we were numerically inferior. We stayed concentrated."  Foxsports

Wayne Rooney confessed that Roma deserved a point for their performance at Old Trafford.

“I think Roma played really well tonight. We knew it was going to be more difficult than last season,” he told Sky Italia television.

Rooney gave Manchester United a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford, but Roma's Amantino Mancini felt they deserved a penalty.

This was a very emotional game for the Giallorossi, who were humiliated here 7-1 in last season's quarter-finals. Already psychologically fragile just days after their 4-1 loss to Inter, they also had to do without Christian Panucci, Rodrigo Taddei, Marco Cassetti and Alexander Doni, the goalkeeper coming down with a stomach bug overnight. Poi l'Inter controlla la gara grazie a un'ottima condotta tattica, mantenuta anche dopo l'espulsione del romeno. Nel finale rosso anche per l'ex cagliaritano.

E’ bastata una serata per recuperare il terreno perduto a Istanbul. Dopo il pareggio di Mosca tra Cska e Fenerbahce, l’Inter ha abbattuto (2-0) la resistenza del Psv grazie ai gol di Ibrahimovic, salendo al secondo posto della classifica del gruppo G. E visto che si avvicina il momento in cui il plotone degli indisponibili comincerà a sgonfiarsi, c’è da credere che pure l’Europa sorriderà a Mancini.

Roma stavolta a testa alta, Ma rivince il Manchester

La Roma cade ancora a Old Trafford. Ma stavolta esce a testa alta, al termine di una gara orgogliosa, in cui forse avrebbe anche meritato il pareggio. I Red Devils guadagnano tre punti grazie ad una perla di Rooney, ma la squadra di Spalletti ha risposto colpo su colpo, cancellando il 7-1 di aprile. Dopo un primo tempo di studio, la gara si è incendiata nella ripresa. Occasioni da entrambe le parti, la Roma ha avuto l'unica colpa di sbagliare troppo sottoporta. Sprecona. E non fortunata quando l'arbitro Gonzalez non ha ritenuto da rigore una spinta di Carrick a Mancini, e soprattutto in occasione dell'infortunio muscolare che ha costretto Aquilani ad uscire in barella.
