It was always coming, just a matter of time. Roma has broken a five game losing streak to defeat English club Chelsea 3-1 on Match Day 4 of the UEFA Champions League at the Stadio Olimpico. Inter Milan fought back to draw 3-3 with Anorthosis in Cyprus.

Christian Panucci and Mirko Vucinic's brace gave Roma the wake-up call they needed, thrashing Chelsea 3-1.

It was crisis time for the Giallorossi after five consecutive defeats in all competition. It was hardly the ideal time to welcome Felipe Scolari's side, who were missing Ashley Cole with a calf problem.

Francesco Totti made his comeback from a recurring knee injury, though Alberto Aquilani and Marco Cassetti were sidelined. Luciano Spalletti unveiled an all-new 4-4-2 system with a diamond midfield.

Roma took the lead after 34 minutes through former Chelsea defender Christian Panucci. A free kick was taken quickly, Cicinho got wide down the right and cut back for the totally unmarked Panucci to sidefoot in from six yards.

Roma doubled their lead straight after the restart. Vucinic smacked a fierce first-time effort from the D with the outside of his right foot after Matteo Brighi rolled across. Vucinic's shot registered 91 mph.

Chelsea tried to timidly fight back, but left space at the back for Vucinic, who robbed John Obi Mikel, ran the entire length of the pitch, skipped past a second Mikel tackle and kept his cool to slot past Cech at the near post for 3-0. The celebrations showed what it meant to the side with a pile-up of players and Coach Luciano Spalletti on top.

John Terry scored in the first leg and netted again here from Deco's cross, although his first attempt saved by Doni appeared to be a handling offence and he was also offside as he eventually tapped in.

Roma is now just a point beyond group leaders Chelsea and in equal second spot on six points along with Bordeaux, setting up a mouth watering encounter for Match Day 6 as Roma will host the French club to Stadio Olimpico.

Roma: Doni; Panucci, Juan, Mexes, Cicinho; Pizarro, De Rossi, Brighi, Perrotta (Taddei 72); Vucinic (Riise 88), Totti (Baptista 62)

Chelsea: Cech; Bosingwa (Kalou 64), Terry, Alex, Bridge; Mikel Obi; Lampard, Deco, J Cole (Belletti 46), Malouda (Drogba 46); Anelka

Inter Milan drew 3-3 with Anorthosis Famagusta, Roma stunned 10-man Chelsea while Liverpool and Barcelona recorded home draws on Matchday 4 of the UEFA Champions League.

Inter Milan have missed the chance to book their place in the last 16 as they shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller with Anorthosis Famagusta.

Anorthosis goalkeeper Arjan Beqaj gifted the Italians the lead in the 13th minute, allowing Mario Balotelli to score, before a defensive calamity saw Inter return the favour with Cedric Bardon profiting on the half-hour mark.

Fortunate circumstances saw both sides score another right at the end of the half through Marco Materazzi and substitute Giorgos Panagi.

Nikolaos Frousos gave the hosts the lead early in the second half but Inter snatched a deserved point thanks to Julio Cruz 10 minutes from time.

Inter remain top of Group B, three points ahead of second-placed Anorthosis.

Anorthosis Famagusta: Beqaj; Georgiou, Katsavakis, Costantinou, Leiwakabessy; Dobrasinovic, Paulo Costa (Panagi 43), Bardon (Ocokoljic 78), Laban, Taher; Frousos (Skopelitis 63)

Inter: Julio Cesar; Maicon, Burdisso (Vieira 58), Materazzi, Zanetti; Quaresma, Cambiasso, Stankovic (Cruz 58), Mancini (Maxwell 58); Ibrahimovic, Balotelli
