Roma had a strong start to their Champions League campaign as Simone Perrotta and Francesco Totti disposed of Dynamo Kiev 2-0, including a glorious team move.

Luciano Spalletti surprisingly gave Amantino Mancini a starting role despite injury worries, picked ahead of Ludovic Giuly.

The Giallorossi opened the scoring with their first real opportunity. It was a well-worked team move in true Roma style with one-touch football, as Francesco Totti and Mancini exchnged passes, then Alberto Aquilani threaded through for Max Tonetto, whose taut cross from the left found Simone Perrotta's glancing header across the face of goal into the far corner.

Giuly may have more experience in the Champions League, but he wasted a golden opportunity to double Roma's lead created by De Rossi, as he hesitated and allowed Shovkovsyi to recover.

The goal came 60 seconds later, as Totti was sent clear by Perrotta and placed a right-foot angled drive past the Dynamo Kiev goalkeeper into the far bottom corner.

Aquilani drilled past the post and Totti had another long-range effort blocked, while Alexader Doni was untroubled by substitute Correa, but did need a fine save to deny Shatskikh's shot with the outside of his foot.

Inter's Champions League campaign began negatively as only Julio Cesar kept the scoreline down in their 1-0 defeat at Fenerbahce.

The Nerazzurri were without the suspended Julio Cruz, Nicolas Burdisso, Ivan Cordoba and Douglas Maicon due to the Mestalla melee in Valencia last season, while Marco Materazzi and Cristian Chivu were injured, Adriano and Cesar Aparecido not on their Champions League list. This meant that Nelson Rivas was given his first official appearance for the club in an all-new defence. There was a familiar face within the home side - never-forgotten Inter hero Roberto Carlos.

It was Fenerbahce who opened the scoring with a spectacular goal. There were errors as the penalty area was packed when Alex dribbled past opponents, but Deivid was allowed to volley into the far top corner from seven yards.  Channel4.com

È la vittoria numero 100 in Europa per i giallorossi, una tripla cifra festeggiata nel migliore dei modi, per il risultato, ma anche per la prestazione: eccellente. La Roma così cancella un brutto precedente: il 15 settembre del 2004 la sfida di Champions con la Dinamo Kiev fu sospesa alla fine del primo tempo, sullo 0-1, per la moneta lanciata dagli spalti che colpì l'arbitro svedese Frisk. La vittoria andò a tavolino agli ucraini.

Disastro Inter in Turchia, L'Europa è sempre amara

A quasi sette mesi dalla notte di Valencia i nerazzurri perdono inaspettatamente sul campo del Fenerbahce (1-0, gol di Deivid). La squadra di Mancini mai in partita: si salvano solo Julio Cesar e Rivas.

L'Inter delude al suo esordio in Champions incassando la sconfitta (1-0, gol di Deivid al 43') sul campo del Fenerbahce. Inesistente l'apporto dell'attacco nerazzurro, prevedibile e poco servito. Julio Cesar evita un passivo peggiore con interventi strepitosi. Dal disastro si salva anche Rivas, positivo alla sua prima partita europea.
