Champions League: Milan - Mission Complete (English/Italian) Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 August 2006

Pippo Inzaghi celebrates his 54th goal in the Uefa Champions League(AP) Former champions AC Milan advanced to the lucrative group stage of the European Champions League beating Red Star Belgrade 2-1.

World Cup winner Filippo Inzaghi netted his 54th Uefa Champions League goal to set the Milan fans who travelled to Belgrade alight.

The scorer of Milan's goal in its 1-0 first-leg victory, Filippo Inzaghi, tallied again - on a header in the 28th minute after a perfect cross by Gennaro Gattuso from the edge of the penalty area.

The Serie A team doubled its lead in the 78th on a close-range shot by Clarence Seedorf, the only player to have won the title with three different clubs.

That gave Milan a 3-0 aggregate lead, but a minute later, Dusan Djokic's volley from close reduced Milan's advantage.

Partita praticamente a senso unico; proprio come l'aveva ipotizzata Carlo Ancelotti.
