It was a matter of luck, or lack of, that led to the eliminations of Juventus, Inter Milan and Roma from this season's UEFA Champions League. AC Milan was the last Italian side to win it back in 2007.

Inter Milan and Manchester United played out an entertaining 0-0 draw at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie while Juventus and Roma came away from London with a 1-0 defeats against Chelsea and Arsenal respectedly. 

Alex Del Piero struck two fabulous goals against the formidable Real Madrid in Spain to send Juventus through to the knock-out stages of the UEFA Champions League while Fiorentina led 1-0 against Bayern Munich only for the Germans to spoil the party 1-1.

It was always coming, just a matter of time. Roma has broken a five game losing streak to defeat English club Chelsea 3-1 on Match Day 4 of the UEFA Champions League at the Stadio Olimpico. Inter Milan fought back to draw 3-3 with Anorthosis in Cyprus.
