But first, Italy must beat the Czech Republic in Group E, and Australia must win or draw against Croatia to progress in Group F. Depending on what results occur in these other group matches perhaps will affect the second round clashes between the groups. Brazil are already through and should finish first in Group F, whereas Italy, Ghana or the Czech's can all finish in top spot in Group E. The superstitious Azzurri fans are all hoping for an Italy-Brazil second round clash, supporting the re-incarnation theory of a 1982 World Cup repeat. Australia, assuming they draw or win against Croatia, could face Ghana, or even Pavel Nedved's Czech Republic. All reports state that Guus Hiddink will be without Socceroos defender Tony Popovic who is out of the Croatia clash due to a calf complaint. Italy will be without De Rossi, suspended after his outrageous elbow to the face of USA striker McBride. Will Totti play? Maybe Del Piero. Hopefully Lippi employs his very best 11, and Italy can qualify for the second phase. 7am tomorrow (Friday) morning we will know. |
