Nesta cleared for Italy Ghana Print E-mail
Sunday, 11 June 2006
DUISBURG, Germany (AP) - Defender Alessandro Nesta was cleared to play in Italy's World Cup opener after a medical exam Saturday showed his injured right leg had healed.
Italy faces Ghana on Monday and Nesta is a key member of the Azzurri's central defense along with captain Fabio Cannavaro. He has not trained with the team since it arrived in Germany.
Right back Gianluca Zambrotta and midfielder Gennaro Gattuso should return from leg injuries next week, team physician Enrico Castellacci said.

The Italy team selected for the Ghana match should look very different to the first choice eleven, although the likes of De Rossi and Grosso are more than capable replacements.
