The Queensland Bulls have fought back throughout day two of the Pura Cup clash at the Gabba with none of the Warriors' batsmen able to build a match-winning innings despite every member of the top eight getting double figure starts.
Western Australia was eventually bowled out for 317 soon after tea in their Pura Cup clash at the Gabba, a lead of 178 runs.
The visitors earlier enjoyed a productive morning after resuming at 2-112 thanks mainly to Aaron Heal (54), but after Shane Watson finally sent the nightwatchman packing, Ashley Noffke (3-76) chimed in with two more while Andy Bichel snared Adam Voges for 39.
Heal hung around for 100 minutes to score his maiden first-class half-century before mistiming a pull shot to Noffke at mid-on to give Watson his second wicket in his Pura Cup comeback.
Watson (3-60) also added Luke Pomersbach to his list of victims the over after drinks, but not before the 22-year-old in his maiden first-class season with the Warriors had notched a fluid 46 after being dropped on 10.
The match began in bad circumstances for the Bulls with the news Martin Love will miss the rest of the season after rupturing the anterior cruciate and medial ligaments in his left knee with paceman Michael Kasprowicz another long-term casualty with an adductor muscle strain.
But day two started on a brighter note when Marcus North (30), who was dropped by Bulls captain Jimmy Maher on 24, was well caught by Watson at first slip without adding to his overnight score.
Heal and Voges capitalised on some indifferent bowling to build a 77-run partnership during which the pair surpassed Queensland's modest first innings total with ease.
The left-arm spinner's highest-ever first-class score included eight boundaries, his best the front foot drive back past Watson which bought up his 55-ball 50.
However, Voges, who has a track record of scoring big against Queensland after smashing Western Australia's highest individual score of last summer, a stunning 178 against the Bulls at the WACA, fell soon after lunch when he feathered a catch to wicketkeeper Chris Hartley.
Luke Ronchi and first day hero David Bandy followed to Noffke as the Queenslanders dragged themselves back into the contest with Steve Magoffin and Brett Dorey both out 15 minutes after tea.
