Cricket: Inaugural Twenty20 World Cup Draw Print E-mail
Tuesday, 20 March 2007
Australia has been drawn alongside England and Zimbabwe in Group B of this year's inaugural Twenty20 World Cup which takes place in South Africa at the end of September.

Cricket South Africa on Monday confirmed the groups for the tournament, which will be held over two weeks in the Republic where Twenty20 cricket is hugely popular.

The four groups of three have South Africa, West Indies and Bangladesh in Group A, England, Zimbabwe and Australia in Group B, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Kenya in Group C and Pakistan, India and Scotland in Group D.

A breakdown of the fixtures is expected to be released by the end of the month, Roweda Kandan, the Cricket South Africa official tasked with overseeing the Twenty20 World Cup, confirmed to PA Sport.

"The groups have been confirmed and the final fixtures are at the ICC for approval at the moment," Kandan said.

"There have been a number of proposed revisions, so we will wait on them to review these and make a decision on them. Obviously with the World Cup on the go in the West Indies, we are only likely to have finality by the end of the month."

The top two teams in each group go through to the Super Eight and matches will be played at Newlands in Cape Town, Kingsmead in Durban and the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

There will be two rounds of warm-up games on Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9. The opening match will be played on September 11 and the final on September 24.
