Luke Ronchi has stolen the show with the fastest ever domestic one-day century to finish Western Australia's Ford Ranger Cup season with a bang and massive win over New South Wales at the WACA ground.
On the back of Ronchi's 56-ball century, the Warriors cruised to their target of 210, losing only two wickets and with 19.5 overs still remaining. The win moves WA to third spot on the Ford Ranger Cup table, as they now look to secure a spot in the Pura Cup final.
Despite being dropped at first slip by Dominic Thornely off the bowling of Doug Bollinger when he was 78, Ronchi rocketed his way past team-mate Adam Voges' 62 ball century against New South Wales in the 2004-05 season.
Ronchi was on fire as soon as he arrived at the crease and the inexperienced bowling of Moises Henriques and Dan Christian were treated particularly harshly. Henriques went for 29 from his three overs, while Christian was hit for 21 in his first over.
His captain Justin Langer scored is 22 off 31 balls before being run out, but he was nothing more than a backseat passenger.
Ronchi had 41 of the first 50 runs and when Langer was dismissed with the score on 110, Ronchi had 86 of the runs.
As predicted in such an innings, Ronchi brought up his hundred on his 56th delivery with a six off the off-spin bowling of Nathan Hauritz.
Stuart Clark had Ronchi caught in the deep, but the damage was already done and the keeper-batsman finished on 105 from 64 balls, including 11 four's and five six's.
North then finished off the innings in fine style ending up 66 not out from 62 balls, with four six's. Voges also closed out the innings and finished not out 13.
Clark was the pick of the New South Wales bowlers with 1-47 from 10, while Hauritz managed to bowl well enough to avoid being hit out of the ground, going for just 34 from six overs.
Earlier in the day, New South Wales were dismissed for 209 in the 47th over, with Simon Katich top scoring with 66, Brad Haddin (43) and Phil Jaques (35) contributing, but the Blues batsman offered little against part-time bowling from North and Darren Wates, who took three wickets each.
After being 2-12 from eight overs, Katich, Haddin and Jaques' knocks gave them hope of a decent score, before losing their last six wickets for 64.
The loss leaves New South Wales in danger of finishing on the bottom of the Ford Ranger Cup table if South Australia manages to beat either Queensland or Tasmania in their final two matches. Sportal
