Newcastle United Jets has officially unveiled new signing, former Brazil international Mario Jardel, at a press conference on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old has agreed a one-year deal with the A-League side and arrived in Australia on Monday.
The Jets will be hoping that Jardel - who has played less than 40 games in the past years - can recapture the goalscoring form that made him one of the game's most prolific strikers during his stint in Portugal.
He starred in the late 1990's for FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon - winning ten caps along the way - and won the UEFA Super Cup with Galatsaray.
However, he failed to live up to expectations at Premier League side Bolton and has also played for Brazilian clubs Vasco da Gama and Gremio.
His last outing was a trial match for Scottish side St Mirren and he is not expected to play his first competitive game for the Jets for at least a month.
The new look Jets have also acquired the services of Argentine winger Jorge Drovandi from Rosario Central, Adam Griffiths, Scott Tunbridge, Noel Spencer and Troy Hearfield for version three of the A-League.
Ten players from last season's squad have moved on including 2006/07 league player of the year Nick Carle, retired former skipper Paul Okon and Colombian striker Milton Rodriguez. SBS
Socceroos NewsDutchman Dick Advocaat has reportedly agreed terms to become the next Socceroos coach.
News Limited papers reported that Advocaat would be unveiled as Graham Arnold's successor at the helm of the national team before the end of the year.
The report said Football Federation Australia (FFA) had concluded negotiations with Advocaat but would delay a formal announcement until the Dutchman's commitments to Russian club Zenit St Petersburg finished in November.
Arnold, who was appointed caretaker coach after Guus Hiddink took up a role with the Russian national team following the 2006 World Cup, is likely to remain at the helm for Australia's friendlies against Argentina next month and China in October.
It was unclear if Advocaat would bring his own assistant coach or retain Arnold for the role, said the report.
FFA accelerated their campaign to find an overseas-based coach after Australia's quarter-final exit at last month's Asian Cup.
The Socceroos' qualifying campaign for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa begins early next year. AAP
