Melbourne Victory reclaimed joint top place with Adelaide United after downing the Reds in a magnificent 3-2 comeback in front of 13,000 football fans at Hindmarsh Stadium. Meanwhile Queensland Roar shot back into final-four contention after Massimo Murdocca inspired both goals for a 2-1 win over Newcastle United, Sydney FC and Central Coast Mariners drew 3-3 and Perth Glory crawled off the bottom of the A-League ladder after defeating Wellington Pheonix 2-0.
Captain Kevin Muscat netted two penalties and miedfielder Billy Celseski squeezed home the winner in the 84th minute from close range to inflict Adelaide's first home loss of the season in front of more than 13,000 fans.
Adelaide looked set for another home win after captain Travis Dodd hit a first half penalty and then versatile Brazilian midfielder Cassio scored his first A-League goal in the 66th minute with a brilliant free kick for a 2-1 lead.
But Melbourne stormed home with Muscat's second penalty in the 81st minute and Celeski's killer goal in the 84th minute to arrest a run of two defeats.
Adelaide slipped to second ahead but Sydney FC can claim top spot with a win on Saturday night against Central Coast Mariners.
Matt Simon scored twice as Central Coast Mariners overturned a three-goal second-half deficit to force an amazing 3-3 draw with Sydney FC at Sydney Football Stadium.
Just as they did in their round-seven game at Adelaide, the Mariners fought back from 3-0 down in the second half and it was Australia's Olympic representative Simon who also scored the equaliser on that occasion.
Queensland continued their amazing A-League road rampage, putting another dent in Newcastle's stuttering title defence with a 2-1 away win.
The Roar made it 14 points from six away games as they recovered the win after conceding a 23rd minute goal to their nemesis Joel Griffiths.
Queensland hit back before half time with goals to Matt McKay and Charlie Miller and held on in the second half to record their fourth win in an unbeaten away campaign.
Newcastle piled on the pressure after the break when they created almost all of the chances but couldn't manufacture an equaliser. Lively Griffiths forced Queensland's goal keeper Liam Reddy to making three saves and Kaz Patafta fired into the side netting, but Roar held firm.
Perth Glory have sent Wellington Phoenix to the bottom of the A-League after winning the battle of the cellar dwellers 2-0 at Members Equity Stadium.
It was Perth's second straight win at home after beating Sydney FC 2-1 a fortnight ago and they are now a point clear of Wellington. Nikita Rukavytsya was the star up front for the Glory, scoring in both halves.
