John Aloisi scores his first goals for the Central Coast Mariners, against Adelaide - A-League on AusItalia.comJohn Aloisi scored a second-half double as Central Coast beat Adelaide United 2-0 at Bluetongue Stadium to consolidate top spot on the A-League ladder.

Playing in his third A-League game, the Adelaide-raised striker broke his scoring duck with a calmly taken penalty in the 50th minute, followed by a clinically struck left-footed volley in the 59th.

In front of an organised Mariners defence, Aloisi combined well with stand-in striker Matthew Simon, who was replacing suspended Sasho Petrovski, to propel Central Coast six points ahead of "

The 31-year-old then made it a double when he manoeuvered past a defender and struck a left-footed volley from a John Hutchinson cross into the back of the net from the edge of the six yard box.

Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC have fought out an absorbing scoreless A-League draw at Telstra Dome on Saturday night, which leaves both sides outside the top four but still within sight of the finals.

Both teams had periods of dominance, each hit the woodwork and defended desperately, while Sydney FC owed plenty to their goalkeeper Clint Bolton.

Bolton made three important saves - two inside a minute in the second half to keep his side in the contest.

The Socceroos keeper saved the only clear chance of the first half - pulling off a reflex save from Victory defender Steven Pace's header in the 36th minute.

Queensland Roar has moved into second spot on the Hyundai A-League ladder after recording a convincing 3-0 victory over the Wellington Phoenix at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

The Roar controlled a nil-all first half before scoring three goals after the break.

Reinaldo scored twice - he put the home side in front with a penalty kick and then back-heeled the ball to press home their advantage at the 79th minute.
