A-League: AusItalian Simon Colosimo named Perth captain Print E-mail

Simon Colosimo proudly takes on the Perth Glory captaincy role - Forza AusItaliani!Perth Glory midfielder Simon Colosimo has been named as the club's captain for the 2007/08 A-League season.

"Simon has played international football at every level and is also a key component in the central spine of our side," Perth coach Ron Smith said.

"If you're going to have an influence on what happens on the field then that is the place you're best able to achieve that."

"We have a fairly young side and Simon is someone our players can look to during matches to have a calming influence when things might not be going our way plus provide the leadership and inspiration in our push towards the finals."

AusItaliano Simon Colosimo is the new Perth captain - AusItalia.comColosimo, who replaces former skipper Jamie Harnwell, says he is 'thrilled' to wear the captain's armband this season.

"There is a real buzz about the place and an air of confidence about the coming season and future of the club," Colosimo said.

"Perth Glory has a proud history and we are all committed to ensuring the club is again the benchmark of football in this country both on and off the field."

Perth struggled in the first two seasons in the A-League, finishing fifth in 2005-06 and seventh last term, but Colosimo said he expects better for the coming season.

"We are definitely not going to disappoint either the fans or ourselves this year, that's for certain," he said.
