The Wellington Phoenix have appointed Ross Aloisi to lead the club in its inaugural campaign, while local boy Tim Brown will be the experienced Australian's deputy.
Aloisi, 34, was the clear choice to lead the fledgling side, and Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert has praised the former Adelaide United star's leadership qualities.
"When you look at what he achieved with Adelaide United, arguably the most successful club in A-League history, it's clear he has a great understanding of what's required to create a successful team environment," Herbert said.
"He's a really passionate, driven person who's very comfortable undertaking a leadership role with the Phoenix. He has the respect of the players and he's a guy I know I can work closely with."
Aloisi said he was delighted to be chosen as the club's first-ever captain.
"The way Wellington and the whole country has embraced the team is incredible," he said. "We've got great players and we're lucky to have the coaching staff we have. We've got everything to play for, every incentive to do our best. We'll be gunning to make the top four this season and hopefully push on and win the title." Sportal
