A-League: 17 AusItalians ready for A-League battle Print E-mail
Friday, 24 August 2007
Paul Agostino is just one of seventeen AusItalians that will be on show in version 3 of the Hyundai A-League which kicks off tonight.

Agostino's input into the round one clash against the Queensland Roar will be dependent on whether Olyroos players Nathan Burns and Bruce Djite back up from their national duties.

If they play he's set to have limited minutes but if they don't, he may be forced to compete longer.

"It's almost two weeks training with the boys, not quite where I want to be, but I'm feeling very good and I'll certainly be travelling with the team," said Agostino, whose pre-season was hampered by a foot injury.

"We'll have to see how our Olympic boys pull up. I'll be with the boys but Aurelio (Vidmar) will assess the situation, how his playing squad is going, and he'll probably make his decision on the day of the game."

The former 1860 Munich player made the perfect comeback from injury last week, playing in a charity match against the South Australian state side.

"I feel like a 16-year-old again out there at Hindmarsh Stadium," the 32-year-old said.

"Of course it's always good to get off to a good start and score a goal. It wasn't really my aim, my aim was to get through the half unscathed and I did that well but to score a goal was a really nice feeling."

Agostino said the new-look Adelaide United had bonded well during the pre-season and was bracing itself for an even Hyundai A-League season.

He said it's unlikely a team would break away from the competition - like Melbourne Victory did last season and Adelaide United did the year before.

Meanwhile, the Reds are expecting big things from their marquee recruit and Agostino is keen to deliver.

But he said he'd have to work hard to stamp his mark on this competition. Sportal

Agostino is the newest addition of Italian Australians alongside Danny Tiatto to the A-League.
