A fading swell greeted the semi-finalists at Les Bourdaines and luck with the waves was a big factor. But Georgeson managed one ride of nine points out of ten in defending her Rip Curl Mademoiselle Pro title and claiming her first win of the year. The Gold-Coast based surfer finished with 15.65 points to Redman-Carr's 10.25. Redman-Carr, with 4752 points, regained the lead in the world ratings that she lost to Layne Beachley in the previous event in Brazil. Beachley was knocked out in the quarter-finals and is now second on 4269 points.
A win is worth 1200 points, second place 972 and equal third 756. The lack of waves made for lop-sided semi-finals as Redman-Carr trounced Brazilian rookie Silvana Lima 11.00 to 2.30 and Georgeson won 13.75 to 5.0 over fellow Aussie Jessi Miley-Dyer. In the quarter-finals on Sunday Miley-Dyer gained revenge on Beachley for beating her in the Brazil final, Redman-Carr downed fellow Australian Rebecca Woods while Lima beat former world champion Sofia Mulanovich of Peru and Georgeson accounted for Hawaiian Megan Abubo. Defending world surfing champion Chelsea Georgeson won the women's WCT event in France on Monday, beating Melanie Redman-Carr in an all Australian final.
Georgeson sits third on 4044 with three events remaining in the eight-round championship, the next being Beachley's own tournament at Sydney's Manly Beach in early October.
