Pellegrino is offering a scholarship for Australian and Italian citizens permanently residing in Queensland in conjunction with the Consulate of Italy in Brisbane.  

This year the scholarship will be directed to young Italian/Australian artists and it is inserted in the framework of the Italian Week 2008, the official celebration for the Italian National Day (Festa della Repubblica). During the Republic Day, the Italian people remember the referendum of 1946, example of democratic expression with which Italians chose their form of State and started walking the path which brought Italy to grow economically and politically, to be one of the founding members and supporter of the European integration, and to finally become the modern worldwide respected and admired country which is known to be today.

 

The Italian Week 2008 is an opening of Italy. An Italy that is interested of not only promoting its culture but to also give an opportunity to the youth of today to be a part of a project that will be beneficial to their cultural and professional lives as a whole.

 

The “Pellegrino Scholarship” is an important part of the Italian Week, that is a week long experience of food and Italian culture, from the 26th of May to the 1st of June, and a professional and cultural opportunity for young Italian/Australian musicians.

 

The three finalists of the “Pellegrino Scholarship” will perform live in a Music Festival, on the 1st of June 2008, at Suncorp Piazza on Brisbane’s Southbank. At this event the young musicians will have the possibility to show their musical and artistic abilities to the city of Brisbane.

 

After the exhibition of the three finalists, a jury composed also by internationally known artists, will announce the winner of the 2008 edition that will receive the “Pellegrino Scholarship”. The scholarship will allow him/her to further his/hers skills and knowledge in Italy for one month at a prestigious University/Cultural Institution.

 

The candidates must be aged between 18 and 25 years old and they must perform a piece of music (even if it is not original). The performing pieces, recorded on either CD or DVD, must be sent into the Office of the Italian Consulate, Level 14, AMP Place, 10 Eagle St., Brisbane Qld 4001, by 17 hours, 4th April 2008, together with a curriculum vitae and general details about themselves.

The PELLEGRINO SCHOLARSHIP FOR FURTHEREDUCATION IN ITALY – 2008 FOR AUSTRALIAN CITIZENS and ITALIAN CITIZENS PERMANENTLY RESIDING IN QUEENSLAND (I.R.E.)Mr Stephen J. Pellegrino (SP) is offering one scholarship for 2008 to Australian citizens and Italian citizens permanently residing in Queensland. The scholarship is organised in conjunction with the Consulate of Italy in Brisbane. The scholarship is allocated for the duration of approximately one month.The scholarship can be used to attend the following institutions or business houses:
  • Universities;
  • Academies, Schools and Organisations in the fields of Fine Arts, Music, Restoration, Media, Italian Language and Culture;
 Scholarships cannot be granted to attend courses at:
  • Non-Italian institutions such as universities, academies, schools of any nature.

 

 The candidate can apply for a scholarship to perform/attend:

  • Study/Research in any field. It would be advantageous to the candidate to furnish a letter of pre-acceptance by the Italian institution that is going to assist him/her.
  • Italian language and culture intensive courses.
  • Work experience or internship in either the private or public sector. It would be advantageous to the candidate to furnish a letter of pre-acceptance by the Italian business house that is going to assist him/her.

 

PREREQUISITES FOR APPLYING:Knowledge of the Italian language: It is advantageous for the applicant to possess a good knowledge of the Italian language, which can be proven by producing relevant certificates. Alternatively, it can be assessed by an interview carried out at the Italian Consulate.The above recommendation can be disregarded:

  • If the candidate intends to use the scholarship to attend an Italian language and culture course.
  • In case of independent research scholarships, provided that the candidate has obtained a letter from an Italian academic assuring his/her willingness to supervise the student in English or another vehicular language.
  • If the candidate demonstrates that the fluency in the Italian Language is not required to adequately perform the duties pertaining to the chosen institution or professional and business organization.
Necessary qualifications:The 2008 Scholarship is open to all candidates willing to improve in the fields of Arts with particular attention to music. The candidates must have obtained a formal school qualification at Secondary level (Senior Certificate) or Tertiary level (TAFE Diploma or Bachelor Degree). A relevant apprenticeship is also accepted. Age limit: 18-25 years as at 4th April 2008. THE SCHOLARSHIP CONSISTS OF:
  • Travel allowances (return airfare to the selected destination in Italy);
  • Health insurance premium;
  • Accommodation;
  • A grant for the value of AU$ 2,500.00
CLOSING DATE FOR LODGMENT OF THE APPLICATION: 4 April 2008The application (in duplicate), complete with passport size photos, must be written on plain paper and posted to the Education Office of the Consulate of Italy.Each application must contain the following documents:
  • Photocopy of the photo page of the passport OR of birth certificate;
  • Curriculum vitae and academic record making particular reference to the activities carried out in the chosen field relating to the scholarship application;
  • CD or DVD with a presentation and/or recorded music.
  • A detailed plan, up to 500 words, of the activities to be developed in Italy supported, where possible, by evidence of the candidate's admission in the school, institute, workshop or organization, where the candidate wishes to study or work. Alternatively, the candidate can provide evidence of the application for enrolment in the chosen course;
  • Photocopies of at least two letters of reference by QLD academic, Government or private authorities;
  • Photocopies of Senior Certificate and/or Degrees, Diplomas, Apprenticeships awarded.
Incomplete or late applications will not be accepted.PLEASE NOTE:
  • The period of fruition of the scholarship commences from the 30th June 2008 and ends on the 1st July 2009.
  • The name of the institution or business house and the dates of the fruition of the scholarship should be clearly stated in the application form, although this is not compulsory.
By the 22nd of April 2008 a joint Committee comprised of Stephen J. Pellegrino and the Consul of Italy, or their representatives, will meet to examine the scholarship applications received by the due date and select a certain number of candidates (short list) for the granting of the scholarship.By the 3rd of May 2008 notification will be sent to all the candidates who have been selected by the Committee, requesting them to attend an interview at the Consulate of Italy, conducted by the joint committee. SP will reimburse travel expenses to those coming from outside the Brisbane metro area. The decision of the Committee is final.The winner of the scholarship will be announced during the music competition the 1st of June 2008 during the Italian National Day celebrations. The winner must sign a disclaimer and, if not Italian, in the due course will provide the Consulate of Italy all the documents required to apply for an Italian visa. Pellegrino offrirà una borsa di studio per cittadini australiani ed italiani che risiedono permanentemente nel Queensland, in collaborazione con il Consolato d’Italia in Brisbane. Quest’anno la borsa di studio privilegerà musicisti italiani e australiani ed é inserita nella più ampia cornice della Settimana Italiana 2008, la celebrazione ufficiale per la Festa della Repubblica. In questa data il popolo italiano ricorda il referendum del 1946, esempio di democrazia partecipativa, con cui i cittadini hanno scelto  la propria forma di Stato ed avviato il paese verso un cammino, che lo ha portato a svilupparsi economicamente e politicamente, ad essere uno dei membri fondatori e promotori dell’integrazione europea, ed infine ad essere quel Paese moderno conosciuto ed ammirato in tutto il mondo. La Settimana Italiana 2008 rappresenta un’Italia interessata non solo a promuovere nel mondo la propria cultura, ma anche a dare un’opportunità ai giovani d’oggi per essere parte di un progetto, che contribuirà certamente alla loro crescita culturale e professionale. La borsa di studio Pellegrino, è un importante parte della Settimana Italiana 2008, una settimana di eventi enogastronomici e culturali, dal 26 maggio al 1 giugno, e vuole rappresentare un opportunità professionale e culturale per giovani musicisti italiani/australiani. I tre finalisti della borsa di studio Pellegrino si esibiranno in un festival musicale il 1mo giugno 2008, in una prestigiosa arena come quella della Suncorp Piazza (Southbank di Brisbane), con la possibilità di mostrare al pubblico della città di Brisbane le loro qualità artistico-musicali. La giuria, composta anche da artisti di fama internazionale, dopo l’esibizione dei tre finalisti ed un’accurata selezione, annuncerà il vincitore della borsa di studio Pellegrino. La borsa di studio consentirà al vincitore della competizione musicale di perfezionare le sue competenze professionali e culturali in Italia, per un periodo di un mese, presso una prestigiosa Università/Istituzione culturale. I candidati dovranno avere tra i 18 ed i 25 anni e dovranno presentare delle canzoni anche non originali.
