Australia's Alicia Molik has won her first round match at the Generali Ladies tournament in Austria on Tuesday, overcoming Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6-4 3-6 6-1.
Molik, who had five aces, next faces either sixth-seeded Patty Schnyder or Aravane Rezai. Karin Knapp rallied to upset Michaella Krajicek 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7-4). After losing the opening set and falling a break behind in the second, the 55th-ranked Italian broke Krajicek twice to take the match into a decider. Knapp missed several match points at 5-4 but finally won it in the tie-breaker. Knapp's next opponent is fourth-seeded Dinara Safina, who had a bye in the first round. Francesca Schiavone used 10 aces to beat Katarina Srebotnik 7-6 (8-6) 6-3. Schiavone, who won her first WTA Tour title earlier this season in Bad Gastein, Austria, takes on top-seeded Anna Chakvatadze in the second round. AAP
