 Lleyton Hewitt has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open but Alicia Molik was not so fortunate in her quarter-final battle with Venus Williams. Italian Flavia Pennetta progressed.
Top seed Williams advanced to the last four after a straight-sets win over unseeded Australian Alicia Molik. The American was pushed to the limit in the opening set by Australian Molik, but won the tiebreaker before claiming the second set and a 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 victory.
In the men's draw, fourth seeded Lleyton Hewitt, though, continued his strong play on Thursday, ousting Spaniard Navarro from the tournament, 7-5 6-3. Hewitt has yet to drop a set so far in the tournament and will take on seventh seed Ivo Karlovic of Croatia in the quarter-finals. Sportal

Flavia Pennetta will now meet France's Razzano. The Italian sealed her spot in the next round by upsetting second seed Sania Mirza of India in a 6-4 6-4 result on Thursday.
